Children's
author, Kimberly P. Johnson, was born in Shelby, NC. She currently
resides in York, SC. She was a flight attendant for US Airways
for eighteen years. Her husband, Jeff Johnson, retired from
the U.S. Air Force after twenty-two years of service.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill where she majored in Communications Studies.

She
served as an intern for WTVD News Channel 11. She has also worked
for the Durham Morning Herald and the Chapel Hill Herald Newspapers.
She served as a hostess for the 1989 Presidential Inaugural
Gala for President George Bush.
She returned to Washington when she was invited by President
and Mrs. George W. Bush to serve as a guest reader at the annual
2002 Easter Egg Roll at the White House.
Kimberly earned an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
She has completed the Advanced Poetry Writing Program and Spanish
IV at UNC-Chapel Hill .
Her first book in English and Spanish is "Paperback
Poetry Part 2" it also is accompanied by a
CD read in both English and Spanish.
Kimberly has established scholarships through Fayetteville Technical
Community College, Fayetteville, NC And Alamance Community College,
Burlington, NC to help assist students pursuing a degree in
Education.
Kimberly is a former Head Start student and works avidly with
their programs. She has developed and helps fund a summer learning
program for Head Start students. The program focuses on increased
school readiness.
She appeared on the Today Show in New York City (November 2000)
during a book signing for Children's Book Week. She has written
eight children's books -
"The
Adventures of the Itty Bitty Frog", "The Adventures
of the Itty Bitty Bunny", "The Adventures of the Itty
Bitty Spider and the Itty Bitty Mouse", "Paperback
Poetry Part I", "Paperback Poetry Part 2", "Tag-Along
Fred", "Not Again, Mr. Cat", "Teachers Need
Tugging Too".
Kim has been the guest speaker for local and national organizations
- including - Project Read To Me, Smart Start, National Reading
Associations and Head Start.
Kimberly is also a celebrity reader for the Charlotte Bobcats
Basketball Team on their NBA "Read to Achieve" all-star
reading program.
She was a presenter at the North Carolina Literary Festival
held in Chapel Hill, N.C. The festival is a collaboration between
the libraries on the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, North Carolina State and Duke University.
Kimberly was named the Fayetteville Community College's Outstanding
Alumni for 2002-2003.
Kimberly received the 2005 Paul Harris Fellow Award presented
by Rotary International for her work in literacy. Kimberly visits
schools throughout the U.S. speaking to children / adults about
literacy and writing. She conducts staff development workshops
on how to motivate children in the classroom. She also teaches
creative writing to elementary and middle school students. She
is a member of the International Reading Association, Society
of Children's Book Writers and Children's Book Insider. .Kimberly
is an advocate of children's literacy and gives a portion of
proceeds to children's literacy organizations. She has developed
a line of greeting cards, motivational CD's and motivational
posters for teachers and children. |
